What is
Root Canal?
Root canal treatment (RCT), also called endodontic treatment, is a dental procedure that removes infected or damaged pulp from inside a tooth. The pulp is the soft tissue containing nerves and blood vessels.
When this tissue becomes infected, it causes severe toothache, swelling, and abscess. A root canal cleans and seals the tooth so you can keep your natural tooth instead of having it extracted.
Who Needs a Root Canal?
Severe or Persistent Toothache
Deep, throbbing pain, especially at night or when chewing, often means the nerve is infected and needs treatment.
Deep Decay or a Cracked Tooth
When a cavity or crack reaches the pulp, bacteria enter the tooth. A root canal stops the infection from spreading.
Swelling, Gum Boil, or Sensitivity to Hot and Cold
Swollen gums, a pimple-like boil, or lingering sensitivity to hot and cold are signs of infection or abscess.
Who Needs a Root Canal?– What options & When?
Single-Visit Root Canal Treatment
The entire treatment is completed in one appointment of about 60 to 90 minutes, with cleaning, filling, and sealing done together. Best when the tooth has mild to moderate infection and you want quick relief with fewer visits.
Multi-Visit Root Canal Treatment
Treatment is spread over two or more visits, with medicine placed inside the tooth between appointments to fully clear the infection. Best when there is swelling, abscess, or a severely infected or complex tooth.
Root Canal Retreatment
If an earlier root canal has failed or become reinfected, the old filling is removed and the canals are cleaned and sealed again. Best when an already treated tooth becomes painful again or shows infection on X-ray.
